What gear do the firemen in Ray Bradbury's Fahrenheit 451 wear?

I'm writing a very short story on a character of mine's background, and he's coming from the F451 universe and was a fireman. My copy of the book got lost when I moved, and I haven't been able to get a new copy yet, so I can't check for myself, but I'm really going nuts here trying to remember what gear the firemen wore. Especially helpful would be information on the crest, I remember something about a Salamander and a Phoenix?
