Why would they laugh at me?

I do modelling and dress in pretty yet feminine clothes.i live in a small community and the thing is people are nasty to me.last day i was dressed very discreetly walking down the street and i met a couple in their thirties.she looked at him..he must have made a joke,both were in hysterics..she said 'awww that is sooo awful' yet laughed loudly and looked at me as she ped so i knew it was aimed at me.amy idea why this is??
