How good is the Sigma 70-200mm f2.8 apo HSM lens. Is it really lighter and faster focus then the non HSM lens?

I used a earlier model sigma 70-200 f2.8 apo, but found it to be very heavy and slow focusing. Wondering is the HSM lens, with same focal lengh, is any lighter and faster focusing?? Is it actually better?
