Yes, canceling your car insurance and driving without it is illegal, and I hope to God I don't see you on the road. Your lender WILL be notified because all lenders REQUIRE full insurance on the vehicle while they have a lien on it. Also when you cancel your insurance, your insurance provider will want to know who you've switched with to notify the lender. Driving without insurance on a car with a lien on it while its required can and most likely will trigger a repossession order for your failure to comply with the loan agreement.
